Question:
What memories of your childhood come to mind as you read about Scout's experiences?
Response:
Basically, I think Scout had a rather interesting and enjoyable childhood. I mean let's look at her life, although she might have faced many problems and complications constantly along the way, she did seem to enjoy her childhood a lot. Especially with Dill and Jem, when they acted out all the various stories that they knew like Dracula and attempted to make them as realistic as possible. And especially the addition of the Radley place and the rumors of it being haunted spiced up Scout's childhood and added excitement as well as suspense to her life.
Personally whenever I think of Scout's experiences as a child, the first thing that always comes to my mind is the many times I spent playing with my brother when I was young. Just like Scout and Jem, we used to play every single day, using up all the free time that we had. However we didn't act out any stories we knew xD, instead we played with these building blocks which we kept in this gigantic sack in the storeroom. Often that not, we'll try to build long bridges using the bricks and make toy cars cross them. However, since my brother was older than me by four years, he soon grew old of the games that we played and didn't play with me anymore, similar to how Jem treated Scout when he grew up and thus spent more time with Dill instead.
For haunted places, sadly no rumors were shared with me when I was in my Primary School. But I did hear about haunted places in my brother's Secondary School which I actually believed in since I was more innocent then. The rumor was that every night, at around midnight, there will be this ghost who would appear on top of the 4th lamp post from the front school gate. People claimed that they have seen this before and this led me to believe this rumor. However, after I grew up, I didn't believe it anymore. Parts and parcels of growing up I guess. :)
So those are my experiences. Hope you enjoyed reading them. :)
Hi Raphael,
ReplyDeleteI feel that you should elaborate more on your childhood, like what you liked to play and how you relaxed, etc. I am sure many readers would want to read about interesting snippets about your childhood, including myself! :D Anyway, pity you didn't heard any rumours about haunted places in primary school, believe me, it really spices up your primary school life! Don't be overloaded with the work in school, keep on persevering!
Cheers,
Roystan
Hi Raphael,
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could elaborate more about your part of growing up and how did it made you not believe in all these rumor anymore. You could also describe more about how you actually believed in those rumors, for example you could state that you were actually freaked out whenever you pass by the lamp post. You could also describe about how people told you about the ghost story and how convincing it was.
Regards,
Gordon
Hi Raphael,
ReplyDeleteI think that you could have elaborated more on why you did not believe the rumours anymore. Maybe you could have asked your brother about how the rumour came about, that would certainly be more interesting although it may be scary. I think that although you don't believe in the rumours anymore, it might still have a small possibility that it may be true. Spooky right? Hope you have more fun exploring your scholl etc.
Cheers,
Jiun Wei
Hello Raphael,
ReplyDeleteI felt that you could have elaborated more in general.
For your childhood life, you could have described what you did back then in more detail and compared it with Scout's life when she was still young.
For the rumours, do you have a specific reason why you stop beliving in those rumours? Was it plainly based on growing up? What do you specifically mean by "Parts and parcels of growing up"?
Best regards,
Alton
